Great news, Wadena! Crews wrapped up paving on Friday and Highway 71 is looking fantastic! A few finishing touches, like striping, will be completed over the coming week.

Twenty-five years may separate us from that September morning, but Wadena remembers. The flag flies today in honor of the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and in tribute to the firefighters, police officers, and first responders who ran toward danger to save others. Never forget!

Construction continues along the corridor, and there's a traffic change coming in a couple weeks.
Wednesday, Sept 23rd: Traffic shifts from head-to-head to split traffic. Westbound traffic moves to the westbound lanes and eastbound traffic to the eastbound lanes, with one lane each direction running on the outside lanes of each side.
Late September: The new setup lets crews pour the raised medians at Co. Rd. 75 to complete the new J turns, finish the Co. Rd. 92 roundabout, and wrap up the remaining median work along Hwy 10.
Before winter: All four lanes of the west segment - starting at 3rd St and heading west - will open.

Get introduced to local government, learn skills in data practices and administration, and learn problem solving and project management skills as well! This is a grant funded position, courtesy of Sourcewell. The position pays $15 per hour, for up to 32 weeks, with a maximum of 640 total hours.

Construction work along Hwy 71 is continuing on, with crews working on new sidewalks and curb, updated storm sewer systems, and new traffic signals. Local businesses along 71 are still accessible, with some temporary changes.
We encourage you to use municipal parking lots, street parking, and to look for back/side entrances to shops along 71. A municipal parking lot map can be found on the city's website as well. While accesses are changing and work continues, we are confident that the end result will be great for the community! A new smooth ride through town, with new sidewalks and infrastructure, setting up Wadena for success.
