The Wadena Fire Department (WFD) was established in 1883 with an all-volunteer staff using buckets and simple hand tools and has grown to a well-trained 20 person paid on call department of the City of Wadena using state of the art equipment to manage all types of emergencies. The members of the WFD volunteer many hours working on several worthwhile events and fundraisers to help defray the cost of maintaining and adding new equipment.

The WFD distributes fire prevention calendars each fall to kick off Fire Prevention Week and the annual Fireman's bingo is always held on the Friday before Thanksgiving at the Wadena - Deer Creek Elementary Gym.
