The Planning & Zoning Department’s primary responsibility is the issuance of Land Use and Zoning Permits, and the processing of Conditional Use Permits and Variances. Along with enforcement of the City Code, the Planning & Zoning Director also maintains maps of all City services, including streets, water, sewer and electrical.
The City Code is available on this site for your reference. Please note that Chapters 150, 151 & 152 relate to Land Use, Zoning & Building issues. You can also download a Residential Building Permit application or a Commercial Building Permit application. You may click on the links at the bottom of this page, or go to the Ordinances/Permits page of this site to view these documents.
The City of Wadena has not adopted the State Building Codes, however, the code is a good reference tool. Follow the link below to view the 2007 MN State Building Code. The City does follow the MN State Fire Code for all buildings and this link will also allow you to view that document.

There are a number of activities that require a permit in the City of Wadena. Two of the most common are building permits and transient merchant permits. Information and application forms for these items are included here. You will need to complete the form and return it to the City Office. Of course, a hard copy of the application forms are available from Planning & Zoning during normal business hours. Planning & Zoning can be reached 218-631-7711.
