The City of Wadena City Council has final authority for adopting the City's annual budget and for establishing the property tax levy. The City Administrator has primary responsibility for drafting a budget that reflects the City’s priorities for programs and services provided to the public. The General Fund is the main operating fund of the City of Wadena.
Real estate taxes are one of the chief sources of revenue for the city. In addition, the City of Wadena receives funds from the State of Minnesota in the form of local government aid. Additional revenues are generated by other means, including licenses, permits, various service fees, interest earnings and transfer from the municipal liquor store and electric utility.
Operating a city the size of Wadena, Minnesota, demands substantial resources to maintain public services for our citizens. Our City Council is committed to the highest possible level of service with minimal impact on property taxes.
